Canaries and Bluebirds come to town Carlton Male Voice Choir in their splendid gold jackets is fast becoming known as the canaries. -  Many of the Choir are quite proud of this association as if we could all really sing like canaries we would be over the moon. Although in the second half of the concert they all magically turned in to blackbirds, because of the temperature they had left the jackets off.

Joining us in this concert on Saturday, held in the Lyndhurst Rooms at Mansfield Civic Centre, was the Marham Bluebirds Military Choir. The ladies sang and performed really well, then, it was back to the men, in the words of the Choir’s compére for the evening, Rick Morris. “Now we go from the Military wives to the dilatory husbands” – sorry Rick for stealing your excellent punch line. Proceeds from the concert were all donated to the ‘Houses2 Homes’ (H2H) project, the Choir donated their fee, the hall was hired at no charge and various sponsorships were given. This all enhanced the final sum handed over to the project substantially. H2H helps to rebuild the lives of veteran soldiers by employing and training them in a range of building and renovation skills, helping to transform derelict properties into homes for ex-service families to live in. H2H is the first project of its kind in the country.
