Isata Kanneh – Mason was chosen by the Carlton MVC judging panel as the 2014 winner of the Carlton Music Maker Award and Trophy, sponsored by Mr. John Brydon.

The panel of four consisted of the Musical Director, Assistant Musical Director, Chairman, and Sponsor.

The competition this year had some very strong contenders, with a variety of singers and instrumentalists entering. Despite this, Isata was placed first by all four judges after viewing her performance.

We felt that the standard of her performance was extremely impressive, particularly considering Isata’s age. It was quite mesmerising to watch and listen to. Her playing technique was quite astounding, and very precise, whilst her confidence and musicianship shone through.

We all felt that she was an outstanding young musician who thoroughly deserved to win the award, and was someone who might well go on to achieve her ambition of becoming a professional concert pianist.

The choir are all looking forward to Isata’s performance at the Festival 2014 concert on Saturday 26th April. Together with guest artists, the Siren Sisters (a close harmony 40’s style singing trio) and the Carlton Male Voice Choir revealing their new season’s repertoire (which includes some songs in commemoration of the start of the First World War) this will surely be a concert not to miss!
