Carlton Music Maker 2015: Matt Glendening is a 17 year old student at Nottingham High School. For more than three years he has travelled to London on Saturdays to study clarinet with Anthony Bailey and piano with Neil Roxburgh at the Royal College of Music Junior Department. He is also in his third year as a member of the National Youth Orchestra, performing with them at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall as well as in many other prestigious venues across the UK. Prior to this he was principal clarinettist in the National Children’s Orchestra – a position he also held with the Nottingham Youth Orchestra. In December he gave a solo recital in the Elgar Room Classical Coffee Morning series at the Royal Albert Hall and has recently won the Gordon Turner Memorial Competition at the RCM. Matt says that he intends to put the Music Makers monetary award towards bass clarinet lessons, which will broaden his versatility as an orchestral player and help him achieve his ambition of becoming a professional clarinettist.
