Braimah Kanneh-Mason Music Maker winner 2016

The choir’s ‘Music Maker’ for 2016 is Braimah Kanneh-Mason. The 18 year old Trinity School sixth former hit the right notes with the judging panel as his virtuosity on violin led to success in the prestigious Carlton Male Voice Choir Music Makers Award. Braimah, who lives in Mapperley, achieved a Grade 8 Distinction when he was just 12. After many years studying violin under Nicole Wilson at the Junior Royal Academy of Music, he has now won a scholarship to the Senior Academy in September, following in the footsteps of piano-playing sister Isata, also a ‘Music Maker’ back in 2014.

Lovers of good music can hear Braimah when he performs a solo spot at Carlton Male Voice Choir’s annual Festival Concert on the evening of Saturday 30th April at Nottingham’s Albert Hall. Braimah’s programme will include his sublime performance of Tchaikovsky’s beautiful ‘Melodie’, about which the judging panel said “he produced a lovely tone whilst showing us very good technical ability, phrasing and tuning”. The versatile youngster also accompanies the choir in ‘Tell My Father’ from the musical ‘The Civil War’ and, proving that he has many strings to his bow, Braimah will team up with his five brothers and sisters as the remarkable Kanneh-Masons appear as special guests for the evening. TV viewers may have seen this six-piece family ensemble, aged 10 to 19, take popular classical music all the way to the semi-finals of ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, where they received a standing ovation from both audience and judges. Their performances together as an ensemble are limited and this will be a rare opportunity to hear young musical talent at its finest in their home town.
Tickets for the Festival Concert on Saturday 30th April, with Carlton Male Voice Choir, the Kanneh-Masons and featuring 2016 ‘Music Maker” Braimah, are £12.50. Please contact: tickets@carltonmvc.org or phone 0115 844 0158 or 0779 225 5776
